(??/0ngoing/) P90's and guitar stuff pt1
ok ok hi . this is very much a not finished post because if you’re not Lame your guitar should never be finished. i hate boys with expensive guitars that they’ve never done more than changed the strings of.. i love having a tactile object to mark and decorate and damage and fix and the things about guitars is you can actually glue them back together when they break. it’s awesome. i am bored of seeing your brand new thousand dollar jazzmaster that looks the same as like ten other dudebro guitarists’. lame!!! ok. yay. my first guitar is stratish, i got it for 200 dollars (plus a guitar amp) when i was a kid and i’ve had it for like ten years. the guitarist in my high school band offered to mod a kill switch into it because we were really into rage against the machine and i was like fuck yeah awesome yes please. it was only when i opened it up years later that i saw the violent, not routed, very clearly gouged out with a variety of tools mess of a hole he had made for the wires. the kill switch works great tho. im definitely not using it for tom morello beep boop annoying stuff but i think it’s just really nice to quickly shut up all sound when someone is talking in practice. at a certain point last year I realised that the pickups on my incredibly cheap ten+ year old guitar were completely rusted and that maybe that was why my guitar sounds like shit. I got a lace sensor to put in the stratish neck, because that was my favourite position out of the rusty pickups. it is a middle position pickup (lace red i think) but it sounds good where it is and that is joyous i think.
P90s!!!
Life changing discovery of mine is that the chinese import 20 dollar p90 pickups you can buy online rip. they are awesome. as fuck. turns out they’re all just magnets. and they scream. any volume and anything but the lowest gain and they feedback so beautifully and it’s Delightful. Great for lame loser shoegaze(booo) rockchicks. i put the neck in my stratish and the bridge in my mustang. i did the mustang in an actual workshop, hence the lack of very obvious drill holes in place of routing damage that you see on the stratish. fucking up a pickguard in your bedroom and vacuuming up the scraps from the carpet is cool actually.

(??/02/24) Bug Wings...))){}(((
These are part of a larger project of recreating a particular childhood pumpkin patch coded outfit that I think my sister is wearing in a photo I found a couple months ago. I have a list of all the seperate parts I'll need for it and most of the reconstruction will involve carefully scouring op shops for perfect equivalent items of clothing (unless I learn how to crochet, which is potentially on the table if I can't find the exact white/cream bonnet and matching gloves that I need). The best part of the outfit however is the pair of coathanger-cellophane wings that my mother used to make us as children. As someone who owns coathangers and clear plastic I felt like the option of not making wings was not an option at all. They also have ended up being a part of the current stage setup for Bug Michigan, trying to have a degree of separation between us and the people watching. Facing away from the audience and hiding behind big plastic wings makes it a lot more fun to play I have discovered. They're pretty simple really, just a lot of bending wire. I don't actually have so so many coathangers to spare so I did decide to repurpose the four smaller pairs of fairy wings I already owned.
Removing the fabric from them did get glitter everywhere. Hades tried his best to help but didn't quite manage to do anything other than pull at the wires while I was bending them into shape. Batgirl didn't try help but did sleep nearby which was morally supportive I think.

They came together fine, after the top and bottom wing sets were done it was just a process of wrapping the wings in clear book wrap. I let the plastic get fairly wrinkled so they'd have fun textures. They have elastic arm straps which keep them up, originally I tried using ribbons to be cute but that shit did not work. Being coquette is never practical. Lesson learned. They were a little hard to balance but by the time I got to making my second pair I figured out that I could use heavier steel coathangers for the bottom wings and lighter recycled costume wing wires on the upper pair so that they sit much nicer. They did lean down to one side when I wore them at a gig, held down by the weight of a guitar strap, but it wasn't super noticeable. Next time ideally I'll wear them over the guitar, and leave the strap pinned under the elastic when I go to swap to different tuned guitars. Overall very happy. I think I will probably make lots more. Feat. Bug Michigan in our wings at the first gig. <3

(04/02/24) Car Prints!!!
My girlfriend stole me receipt paper and i went for a walk with itbest summer ever you guys.. didn’t even have to trim it for the printer that is crazy cool. generally just doing a lot of being penniless and wandering. actually just doing that thing where i print a little receipt picture of someone’s car and leave it on their windshield like a ticket.
got a bit carried away with it and had the idea to put a photo of a completely different car to rebel against the system i set up for myself. then i had the thought to do that twice so each car had a picture of the other like a little pairing. i was gonna do them a distance from each other so they’d both be confused but i saw the cars in the last slides a few parks away from each other and thought maybe the bmw is owned by a cool hyper feminine girlboss and the rav belongs to a down to earth mechanic coded butch and maybe in solving the mystery of why their two cars have been linked by these little pictures I have actually set up a really strange and beautiful meet cute and they’ll kiss and be in love. so i did that instead.
I'm kind of unsure of the motivation/politics of this frankly. i was trying to pick not the nicest cars . because i used to be friends with car people and i didn’t want some japanese domestic market brodude thinking i was appreciating his sick ride. but also thinking you have a ticket is kinda scary if you’re poor even if it’s just for a second and it’s not a prank i’m not pranking and i’m not gonna give a tesla one because i would rather do something defacing to tesla so. not sure. maybe i could make actual fake tickets for teslas but that might be higher risk activity and kind of a horrible activity to spend a day walking around for teslas. actually gross. if i got a little picture of my car i would think it’s a cute little treat so. hopefully it’s fine.
